Melbourne – with over 3.5 million people it is Australia's
second largest city and it is attractively located on the banks
of the Yarra River and the shores of Port Phillip Bay. It’s
a cosmopolitan city with a great quality of life. Explore on the
trams, eat at the riverside restaurants and people watch at the
cafes!
The
Great Ocean Road - This is one of the most famous and scenic
coastal drives in the world and words can't describe the spectacular
scenery on this 280km section of road. Every motorcyclist should
ride this road at least once in their life!
You have the amazing coastal scenery (including the world famous
12 Apostles) on one side with the temperate rainforest of the
Otway Ranges on the other. Dotted along the way are friendly small
towns with great cafes and restaurants that are perfect for a
coffee break and to take in the atmosphere.
It always takes a lot longer than you imagine to ride the Great
Ocean Road. There are so many places to stop for lookouts and
to take short walks that you are constantly on and off the bike.
Due to the never ending series of bends which are tight in places
your average speed is also lower than you might imagine. You need
at least a day to ride one way if you like to enjoy the views
and see things on the way.
Many people think the Great Ocean Road runs all the way to Adelaide
but this isn't the case. It stops around 300km from Melbourne
(550km from Adelaide) but fortunately if you turn immediately
north at the end of the GOR you find yourself in the beautiful
Grampians National Park.

Grampians
National Park – this area has steep granite highlands
jam packed with wildlife, superb lookouts and waterfalls. The
biking roads are great and on a clear day you can see 150 kms
to the coast and the Great Ocean Road. You have a day here to
explore this beautiful area.
South Australia Coast - from
the Grampians you ride to the amazing Blue Pool crater lakes of
Mt Gambier and then on past the giant lobster to the lovely small
seaside towns of Beachport and Robe. From there you'll ride along
the coastal roads of the Coorong National Park towards Adelaide.
Adelaide - the 'City of Churches'
has one of the best botanical gardens in the world and don't forget
to try a pea floater (an Aussie meat pie ‘floating’
in pea soup)! Adelaide has a small town feel with lovely colonial
architecture and all the conveniences of a modern city.
